I've just been looking at the newest search engine on the block - Cuil, and I have to say it's kinda cool.
It's cool mainly as it has indexed my blog. I'm not sure if I like the column approach to giving the search results - means you've got to look both ways when looking at the page. I've also noticed that the right column is one entry shorter than the left one - place for adverts in the future me thinks - noting that the site seems to be void of adverts at the moment.
It's sort of interesting how it picks a photo that it thinks relates to some posts - and the photos aren't even necessarily from the page in question. My rant about the Royal Mail for example gets a picture of a postie next to it!
I was a tad disappointed that when I searched for Daniel Bedingfield there wasn't a snap shot of me next to one of the things. What it also showed up is that it uses the same set of images over and over again for putting next to the results - not so cuil and renders them useless. I don't think it shouldn't put a photo of the search term next to the entry - maybe something that differentiates the different entries from one another... I'm trying to think of an example... "nuts" - either pictures of bolts or squirrels. I'd check to see if it does this but the site appears to be down - anyone would think lots of people are visiting it.
We'll be back soon...
Due to overwhelming interest, our Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now. The search engine is momentarily unavailable as we add more capacity.
Thanks for your patience.
Oh well!
