When I was a kid my Dad used to sing a song to us - we might have even had it on a cassette somewhere... I seem to remember trips to London when I was about 3 listening to it in the car! Anyways... here's the lyrics...
Holly the Hedgehog, Holly the Hedgehog
Nobody wants to sleep with her
She's got prickles - scratching and they tickle
All the other animals that have got furShe went to sleep with Rabbit
But he couldn't stand it
'Wake up Holly this will not do
You tickle and you crush me
You prickle and you squash me
Somebody else must sleep with you.'Holly the Hedgehog, Holly the Hedgehog
Nobody wants to sleep with her
She's got prickles - scratching and they tickle
All the other animals that have got furShe went to sleep with Dormouse
Couldn't stay at her house
'Wake up Holly this will not do
You tickle and you crush me
You prickle and you squash me
Somebody else must sleep with you.'Holly the Hedgehog, Holly the Hedgehog
Nobody wants to sleep with her
She's got prickles - scratching and they tickle
All the other animals that have got furDormouse and Rabbit said they couldn't stand it
'Wake up Holly this will not do!
You tickle and you crush me
You prickle and you squash me
Somebody else must sleep with you.'Holly the Hedgehog, slept in the back shed
The brooms and the brushes they didn't complain
Wrapped in a pound note like a paper overcoat
Out of the way of the wind and rain.By Ralph McTell
For some reason, every so often, I keep getting the track stuck in my head - and now not having the world knowledge of a 3 year old can see a rather sinister side to what I thought were innocent lyrics about animals! :-)
